Proposals for the Sculpture Honoring Dr. Maya Angelou at the San Francisco Main Library

The San Francisco Arts Commission is conducting a selection process to choose an artist to create a sculpture honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Maya Angelou to be located at the San Francisco Main Library. The artwork is intended to honor one of the most significant literary artists and activists of our time, and will be an ever-present role model and inspiration to girls and young women. Treasure Island: Building One Plaza Public Art Project

The San Francisco Arts Commission is working on behalf of Treasure Island Development Authority to commission a signature public artwork for Building One Plaza, which is located at Avenue of the Palms and California Avenue. The newly commissioned artwork is intended to acknowledge the importance of the landmark Building One, while marking the transitional nature of the site through the use of contemporary materials and styles.

Treasure Island: Waterfront Plaza Public Art Project

The San Francisco Arts Commission is working on behalf of Treasure Island Development Authority to commission a monumental public artwork for Waterfront Plaza, which is to be located on Avenue of the Palms by the causeway entrance of Treasure Island. The newly commissioned artwork is intended to be a beacon and mark an important point of entry to the island, greeting residents and visitors upon their arrival. This work will have an iconic presence and be grand and bold.

Art Proposals for Gene Friend Recreation Center Public Art Project

The San Francisco Arts Commission is conducting a review process to choose an artist to create an integrated wall artwork for the interior north-facing wall of the gymnasium at the new Gene Friend Recreation Center at the corner of 6th and Folsom Streets. The artwork should illuminate the rich history and full diversity of San Francisco’s SOMA neighborhood including recognition of SOMA Pilipinas, the Filipino Cultural Heritage District. The artwork should also lift up the Center as a destination and proud neighborhood asset.

Art Proposals for the Ocean Beach Climate Change Adaptation Public Art Project

The artwork should be inspired by or respond to climate change. With the plaza’s proximity to the beach and ocean, the artwork should be constructed of durable materials and able to withstand harsh weather conditions.

Art Proposals for the Transbay Block 3 Park & Alley Public Art Project

The artwork should be inspired by and responsive to the proposed park design, its natural habitat, physical landscape, site history, and sustainability. Additionally, the work should have a visual impact from a distance yet be integrated into the landscape.

The artwork should also reflect the identity of the surrounding neighborhoods, while being appropriate to the Herz Recreation Center and contributing to its welcoming community environment.
